The Photograph
The 68th Alain Briot Print of the Month photograph is titled Sabrina Lake.

This image was created with my Phase One P45 Digital Back mounted on a Hasselblad V camera. The lens used is a Zeiss 150mm.

The photograph was taken at sunrise, on a cold October morning. It had snowed a couple of days before and some snow remained on the mountains and along the lake. We arrived at that location in the dark, and I started photographing as soon as there was enough light to see the trees. I worked for over an hour, stopping only after the first light appeared at the top of the mountain. At that time direct light started showing in the image and I stopped because I preferred to have the entire scene in open shade.

You can see the first rays of sunlight striking the top of the mountain on the reflection at bottom right.

In regards to processing I desaturated the lake and the mountain to have a neutral grey and white color. I wanted this to create a contrast of color between the lake, the mountain and the fall colors in the trees along the lake. Saturated olors are more noticeable when it is present in certain areas and not on the entire image. Colors stand out more when they contrast with neutral grey area.
