The Photograph
I am pleased to announce the release of the fifteenth Alain Briot Print of the Month Collection photograph: Shaman and Bighorns.

This photograph was created in 1998 with a Hasselblad 500-CM and a Zeiss 60 mm lens. I used Fuji Provia 100 F film for superb color saturation and reproduction.

The Image
This photograph was created in the Coso Range, a mountain range located next to Ridgecrest, California. The Coso Range is part of the China Lake Naval Weapon Station. Big Petroglyph Canyon, and the petroglyph panel depicted in this photograph, are located within the range. Needless to say, special clearance, authorization and escort are necessary to visit this location.

This photograph was taken during a field trip organized by the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest, California. It was part of a series of field trips I took to the Coso Range in 1997 and 1998. The resulting images were collected in a museum-quality Print of the Month which was submitted to the American Rock Art Assotiation (ARARA) for consideration for the ARARA Oliver Award for excellence in Rock Art Photography. This award requires, among other, that the submitted photographs depict a mastery of both art and science. The artistic side of my Print of the Month was represented by the aesthetic qualities of each image as well as by the print quality, matting and presentation. The scientific aspect was represented by the inclusion of a detailed essay on how these photographs were created, prepared and printed as well as by a CD containing the original digital files used to create each print. The Print of the Month consisted of 12 prints matted in 16x20 mats and enclosed in a black, cloth-covered, museum Print of the Month case. My submission was unanimously selected as the winning entry for the 1998 ARARA Oliver Award.

The Print
This photograph is available framed and unframed. It is hand signed on the mat and the print. The frame is a handmade, Mahogany Finish Frame. The moulding is truly magnificent and does emphasize the beauty of these two images. The photograph I took of the moulding show very closely how beautiful this presentation is. However, these pieces looks much better in reality than a web photograph can show! You just won't believe your eyes when you receive yours.
